Includes the full manuscript score of the comic opera Kosiki, and 21 songs (some
incomplete) This collection was found interleaved with the musical compositions of Oscar
Weil, Brugui`ere's teacher in San Francisco, held by the Music Library (ARCHIVES WEIL 1)
Some unidentified compositions of Brugui`ere may remain among the sketches and drafts of
Weil. See Series IX of the Oscar Weil papers. It is possible that there still remains
unidentified compositions of Bruguière among the sketches and drafts of the
Oscar Weil collection. See item 58 of the Weil collection.
Background
Son of Émile A. Bruguière and Josephine Sather Bruguière. Studied in
San Francisco with Lorenzo Smith and Oscar Weil, and in Berlin with Georges Jacoby. His
opera Querida, a lyric drama in two acts, from the play Mother
Earth by Francis Powers was published by Costallat in Paris ca. 1911 (plate no.
CC 1573). he also collaborated with Richard Henry Warren in The Rightful Heir, a
musical satire in two acts directed especially at the conventional comic opera.
