Scope and Contents
The
Effie May Power Collection documents Power's time in nursing school at San Diego County Hospital, and her time working as a nurse at Mercy Hospital
in Prescott, Arizona. Highlights include correspondence in which Power refers to construction and rennovations taking place
at San Diego County Hospital, and working with Dr. Charlotte Baker, San Diego's first female doctor, as well as course notes
and the red cross armband Power made for herself. The collection consists of correspondence, press clippings, photographs
and course notes.

Biographical Note
Euphinnia May Power, known as Effie, graduated from San Diego County Hospital's nurse training program in 1909. Her family
lived in Point Loma, and she corresponded with them throughout her time in nursing school and following her graduation when
she took a nursing job at Mercy Hospital in Prescott, Arizona. Power contracted spinal meningitis from a patient at Mercy
Hospital and died in Prescott on January 28, 1913.
