Biography/History
Composer Edgar Grossmann was born in St. Petersburg, Russia on June 14, 1882. He emigrated to the United States in 1951, settling
in Los Angeles. Grossman composed art songs, primarily setting poetry to music, and also taught music. In 1952, he married
Marie Achron, widow of composer and violinist Joseph Achron. Edgar Grossmann died in Los Angeles on September 17, 1960.
Scope and Content
This collection primarily contains holograph and reproduction vocal compositions, mostly songs or SATBs with music by Grossmann,
in Russian and English. Also included are some personal correspondence and notes of poetry.
