L. Sperry from 1916-1931. The negatives mostly were taken during vacations, and depict natural areas and parks throughout
the United States.

Biographical Note
John L. Sperry was born in Rhode Island in 1894, and attended Brown University. He moved to Riverside, California, with his
wife Grace H. Sperry in 1925, where she worked as a naturalist and he became one of the leading lepidopterists in the United
States. He passed away in 1954 at the age of 60.
