Description
Meeting minutes, flyers, clippings, correspondence, press releases, mailing and registration lists, notes, financial records, pamphlets, mass mailings, and newsletters of the March Committee for Lesbian and Gay Rights/Los Angeles, 1980-1982, undated. Emerging from the 1979 March on Washington and the 1980 March on Sacramento, the committee worked to build the lesbian and gay rights movement.
Background
The Los Angeles March on Washington Committee formed in 1979, changed its name in November to the Los Angeles Committee for the March on Sacramento, and in February 1980 to the March Committee for Gay and Lesbian Rights/Los Angeles. A grassroots organization with a mission to build the lesbian and gay rights movement, the committee operated at least through the National Conference on Lesbian & Gay Rights on April 24-26, 1981, and was mentioned in a 1982 proposal for a second March on Washington.
