Background
Felicia Dorothea Browne Hemans (1793-1835) was a British poet born in Liverpool. Her first poems, dedicated to the Prince
of Wales, were published in 1808. In 1812 she married Captain Alfred Hemans, an Irish army officer; they had five sons and
later separated. One of her most well-known poems "Casabianca," was published in 1826. She moved to Ireland in 1831 where
she died of dropsy in 1835.
