Abstract: This collection includes material collected by Lyle Fulks, a member of the Socialist Workers Party and Solidarity. It includes
material from other Socialist organizations, such as Workers Power, Socialist Action, and International Socialist. Besides
material related to Socialist organizations, the collection also includes teaching syllabi, articles, personal material, and
other subjects related to Socialism, Communism, Marxism, labor, and social justice.

Holt Labor Library History
The Holt Labor Library was a library in San Francisco from 1992 to 2019 that collected and made accessible primary and secondary
source material related to labor history and the history of the radical left, with an emphasis on the activities of American
Trotskyist political organizations. The Library also collected materials related to various anti-war movements, the women's
movement, gay liberation, the African American Civil Rights Movement, among other social justice causes.

All requests for permission to publish or quote from manuscripts must be submitted in writing to the Director of Archives
and Special Collections. Permission for publication is given on behalf of Special Collections as the owner of the physical
materials and not intended to include or imply permission of the copyright holder, which must also be obtained.

This collection was processed in 2022-2023 by Jennifer Hill. The periodicals donated by Lyle Fulks were integrated into the

Biographical / Historical
Lyle Fulks was born in February 1949 in Minnesota. Fulks was part of the Socialist Workers Party and also a member of the
Young Socialist Alliance in Colorado. In 1970, Fulks ran for Regent as a member of the Socialist Workers Party in Colorado.
He later became a member of the Solidarity.

Scope and Contents
The Lyle Fulks Collection (1961-December 1, 2006) contains 3.91 linear feet of material, such as bulletins, flyers, memos,
correspondence, and discussion papers, related to the Socialist Workers Party, International Socialist, Socialist Unity, Solidarity,
Worker's Power, and other organizations and committees related to Socialism, Marxism, Communism, social justice, and labor.
The first series in the collection includes organizational and committee statements, news releases, conference programs, meeting
minutes, reports, agendas, memos, discussion bulletins, correspondence, and other material related to various Socialist Marxist,
Communist, social justice, and labor organizations and committees. Some of the larger organizational files include Fourth
International, Fourth International Tendency, Labor Party Advocates, Labor Party Forum, Southwest Labor Studies Organizations,
Student Mobilization Committee, Students for a Democratic Society, and other organizations. Also included is a folder from
various organizations related to the San Francisco State strike in the 1960s.
Series Two contains memos, reports, constitutions, letters, National Executive Committee minutes, flyers, articles, and other
material related to the Socialist Workers Party and the Young Socialist Alliance. In the folder related to the campaign committee,
it contains a campaign brochure for Lyle Fulks for Regent in Colorado.
Series Three contains material related to the International Socialists, Socialist Unity, Worker's Power, and the Solidarity,
which is the organization named after the three initial groups regrouped to form one organization. The material related to
Solidarity includes initial regroupment discussions, memos, correspondence, agendas, minutes, discussion bulletins, discussion
papers, newsletters, flyers, brochures, and other material related to the organization before and after regroupment.
Series Four contains syllabi related to socialism classes. It also includes unpublished articles, drafts of articles, and
other teaching material. The articles and drafts were most likely written by Lyle Fulks and the syllabi are from classes he
most likely taught with Socialist Workers Party.
Series Five contains subject-related material, with one of the largest subjects related to Bernie Sanders. It also contains
printed published articles and newspaper clippings.
Series Six contains personal material related to Lyle Fulks. The personal material includes letters from his parents, postcards,
and family history information with a focus on the last name Fulks.
