    Biography

    Kenneth D. Sender was the defendant in two replevin suits brought against him by the State of New Mexico (1961) and by the federal government (1964). Both cases were based on the belief that Sender's collection consisted of official New Mexico documents. Both cases were adjudicated in favor of Sender. In 1984 part of the collection was sold to the State Record Center and Archives at a nominal price by the inheritors of the collection. - Sender Collection.     Scope and Content

    The Kenneth D. Sender collection consists of Xerox copies of the microfilm, which is in the custody of the New Mexico State Records Center & Archive. Box 6 consists of an English translation / summary completed by Haydee Noya.
    The collection consists of New Mexico historical documents (1697-1884). The bulk of the collection covers the years, 1805-1855. The collection is rich in the official documents of various Northern New Mexico local authorities (ayuntamientos), in particular those of Santa Cruz de la Canada. Subjects included are settlement policies, military affairs including relations with the Indians and the Unites States, political and governmental affairs including appointments and transmittals of royal circulars, legal affairs including legal documents pertaining to murder and various other crimes, economic affairs, acqueias, land claims, land petitions and complaints, and education. - Sender Collection.
