Description
The collection consists of T. Robert Kendall's research files on the history of underwater photography and diving, materials
documenting his participation in the San Diego Underwater Photographic Society (SDUPS), and vintage diving equipment catalogs.
Background
T. Robert Kendall (1935-1987) was a physical oceanographer, ocean engineer, and avid underwater photographer. He received
a BS from Pomona College in math and physics, followed by his BS, Masters, and Ph.D. in oceanography from the University of
Washington, University of Hawaii, and Nova University, respectively. Dr. Kendall was an Assistant Professor of ocean and electrical
engineering at California State Polytechnic University Pomona, and Associate Professor in computer engineering at the American
Armenian International College in La Verne, CA. He made significant contributions to the field of underwater photography,
designing and manufacturing equipment and camera housings. Dr. Kendall was a charter member of the San Diego Underwater Photographic
Society and published and exhibited his work widely, receiving numerous photography awards.
