    Biographical / Historical

    Edward DeWitt Taylor (1871-1962) was born in Sacramento, California, became interested in printing as a young boy, and in 1896 established E.D. Taylor & Company, which subsequently became the printing firm of Taylor & Taylor of San Francisco. He also manufactured Taylor oil colors, designed many works exhibited by the American Institute of Graphic Arts, and participated in organizations dedicated to etching and the graphic arts. He was active in the printing firm until 1946.

    Scope and Contents

    The collection consists of letters, manuscripts, documents, four photographs, and two scrapbooks related to the personal and business affairs (mainly concerning the printing business) of Edward DeWitt Taylor. There are also a few manuscripts and poems by Edward DeWitt Taylor and his father, Edward Robeson Taylor (1838-1923), and others. There is one letter by Jack London to Taylor, 1909 November 27. Much of the collection is unsorted and undated.
