Abstract:
This collection consists of a holograph letter from Henry David Thoreau to the publishing firm Wiley & Putnam and an engraved portrait of Thoreau. The letter is dated January 14, 1847 and is addressed to Evert A. Duyckinck. Thoreau asks Duyckinck to relay a message to John Wiley, head of the publishing firm. Thoreau indicates that he would like to make corrections to his Walden manuscript and requests that it be sent via mail. The engraved portrait is undated and unsigned, although it is similar to Samuel Worcester Rowse's 1854 portrait.
