This collection includes Sue Rochman’s research notes on HIV in prison from the late 1980s and early 1990s. Documents include correspondence from HIV positive prisoners and prison activitists, copies of published articles and government agency reports (from sources including the Correctional Association of New York, New York state statutes, ACT-UP, National Lawyer’s Guild, ACLU, World Health organization, U.S. News and World Report, and college newspapers), and handwritten notes based on interviews, conversations, and other research. The collection includes three folders. The first folder contains Rochman’s correspondence with prisoners and activists. The materials in the second folder are articles, reports, and research notes focusing on New York state, while the third folder includes articles, reports, and research notes pertaining to California, Florida, Texas, Louisiana, Missouri, and Alabama, as well as New York state.

Sue Rochman is a freelance health journalist from the San Francisco Bay Area specializing in oncology and HIV. She is a contributing editor for Mamm, editor-at-large for HIVPlus, medical editor for SusanLoveMD.com and has been a regular contributor to the Advocate, Training & Conditioning, GayHealth.com and numerous other publications.
