Abstract:
Dick Powell (1904-1963) made his film debut in 1932 and was featured in Warner Brothers musicals during the 1930s. He made the transition to dramatic roles in the 1940s, then became a producer-director in the 1950s. The collection consists of books of clippings concerning Powell's career in show business from 1925 to 1945. The majority of the scrapbooks were compiled and presented to Powell by his fans.

Biographical / historical:

Born as Richard E. Powell on November 14, 1904 in Mountain View, Arkansas; former band vocalist, instrumentalist, and occasional MC, made film debut, 1932; featured in Warner Brothers musicals in 1930s; made transition to dramatic roles, particularly private-eye heroes, in 1940s; became producer-director in 1950s and president of Four Star Television production company; married to Joan Blondell and June Allyson; died in 1963.
