Nancy Lee Ruyter is a dance historian, choreographer, and professor at the University of California, Irvine. This collection comprises research materials gathered by Ruyter while writing Reformers and Visionaries: The Americanization of the Art of Dance (1979) and The Cultivation of Body and Mind in 19th-Century American Delsartism (1999). Additionally, the collection includes clippings, catalogs, and other research materials documenting 19th and 20th century dance in the United States, as well as African and Balkan dance, opera, musical theatre, and musicals.
