Abstract:
George de Clyver Curtis (1872-1966) was a homesteader in Lakeside (later called Ramona), California and a beekeeper. He wrote plays, poems, and books, including Bees' ways (1948) and Cats' tales and dogs' days (1955). The collection consists of Curtis' personal papers, diaries, photographs, correspondence, and a 1925 water color painting.

Collection consists of the personal papers of George de Clyver Curtis, mostly 60 volumes of diaries kept from 1904-64. Also includes photographs, correspondence (including a letter from Theodore Roosevelt), and a 1925 water color painting.

Biographical / historical:

Curtis was born in 1872 in Providence, Rhode Island and was brought up in New York City; graduated from Harvard, 1893; worked at the Astor Library; became a rancher in Arizona in his twenties, and then a homesteader in Lakeside (later called Ramona), California; became a beekeeper; wrote plays, poems, and books, including Bees' ways (1948) and Cats' tales and dogs' days (1955); he died in 1966.
