The collection is partially processed, with folder titles generally referring to personal surnames or names of organizations. When more than one individual with the surname is represented in a folder, it often is unclear if the individuals are members of the same family.
The collection is largely correspondence from the eastern part of the U.S., especially New England, New Jersey and, Pennsylvania. The bulk of the collection is nineteenth century, with a few late 18th century and early 20th century items. There also are a few British items.
