Biographical / historical:

Jose Tiburcio Vasquez was born October 14, 1795 in San Jose, California. He served as a soldier in San Francisco from about 1819 through1825. In 1839, he was granted Rancho de los Pilarcitos, 4,436 acres in San Mateo County. From 1839 through 1846 he was administrator and major domo of Mission Dolores. After the American conquest of California, he continued to reside on his rancho near Spanishtown, engaging in various farming and merchandising enterprises until his death in 1862.
