John Rudd Brown was born in Brownsville, New York on May 7, 1833. He married Elizabeth McMillan on January 29, 1866 in Sacramento, California. Their son, Edward Sherbourne Brown, Sr. (Oct. 24, 1869-June 16, 1944) was a produce merchant, rancher, and member of the Sacramento City Council. John Rudd Brown died in Sacramento on February 7, 1884. His wife, Elizabeth McMillan Brown, died in 1902.
