Scope and content:

The Walter de la Mare papers at Stanford include a variety of materials collected by Dorothy Hatch, primarily about British poet and writer Walter de la Mare with some additional materials about his contemporaries, including Naomi Royde-Smith, Rupert Brooke, and Lady Ottoline Morrell. In addition to letters and postcards written by de la Mare and publications containing his work, there are a number of professional and amateur musical adaptations of his work. The collection also contains some materials from Hatch regarding the collecting of de la Mare materials.

Biographical / historical:

Walter de la Mare (1873-1956) was a British poet and writer. He is particularly well-known for his work for children and his ghost stories.

This collection was given by Dorothy L. Hatch to Stanford University, Special Collections in 1991 and 1993.
