Collection consists of approximately 500 photographs by photographer and California pictorialist Ernest Pratt. Includes many untitled photos and exhibition prints. Also includes photos of various locations including California and Mexico and works by Viroque Baker.

Expanded Scope and Content Note

Collection of photographs, v.p. (California and Mexico) ca. 1920-1940. Ernest Pratt was a commercial photographer and a California Pictorialist. At one time Viroque Baker worked with him and her name appears withhis on some of the photographs. For the most part, the photographs are untitled; they have been grouped by subject matter and are of various sizes. Many are exhibition prints. Brittle and deteriorating mounts have been trimmed for better preservation. The size before trimming is indicated on the verso.

Biographical / historical:

Pratt was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, April 24, 1876; was a commercial photographer and California pictorialist; shared a studio with Viroque Baker in Olvera Street, Los Angeles, California (ca. 1929-32); died in Los Angeles, August 23, 1945.
