Background

Scope and content:

The Charles Francis Sloane papers consist of scrapbooks, writings, correspondence, public safety publications, photographs, slides, and other materials that primarily relate to police training, counter-insurgency warfare, and South Vietnamese police activities during the Vietnam War.

The scrapbooks primarily document Sloane's experiences in numerous positions throughout New York State and his work for the United States State Department Agency for International Development (AID). The remainder of the collection documents Sloane's work experience in public safety in Vietnam. Many photographs and documents reveal events surrounding public safety training and recognition ceremonies. More specifically, numerous photographs relate to United States Operations Mission (USOM), Vietnam, the Joint United States Public Affairs Office (JUSPAO), and dinner receptions.

Materials are arranged in chronological order or by the original order of the creator.
