Abstract:
Harvey S. Perloff taught architecture and urban planning at the University of Chicago (1947-55), was dean of the UCLA Graduate School of Architecture and Urban Planning (1968-1983), director of the Resources for the Future, Incorporated, appointed by President Kennedy to the Committee of Nine of the Alliance for Progress, and served as chairman of the Committee on National Urban Policy (1981). He also wrote 17 books on urban planning. The collection consists of Perloff's personal papers.

Biographical / historical:

Perloff taught architecture and urban planning at the University of Chicago, 1947-55; director, Resources for the Future, Incorporated, for eight years; appointed by President Kennedy to the Committee of Nine of the Alliance for Progress, on which he served for two years; became chairman of the Committee on National Urban Policy in 1981; wrote 17 books on urban planning, including Education for planning: city, state, and regional (1957); became dean of the UCLA Graduate School of Architecture and Urban Planning two years after its inception in 1966, and guided the program for 15 years; died in 1983.
