Scope and content:

The collection contains correspondence and memos, files from the Publications Office, news releases and clippings, and some subject files, including materials on animal research and the Proposition 3 construction bond.

Biographical / historical:

The University of California, Santa Barbara's (UCSB) Office of Public Affairs and Communications (OPAC) is responsible for providing strategic communications support for UC Santa Barbara, working with both internal and external audiences.

In addition to its public information and media relations functions, OPAC also currently publishes The Current, UC Santa Barbara's official news site, along with UC Santa Barbara Magazine.

Formerly known as the Office of Public Information, the office was renamed in 1994 to the Office of Public Affairs, and is known as the Office of Public Affairs and Communications today.
