The collection comprises publications from the Department of Studio Art at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) and its predecessors. The materials primarily document events held at the campus art gallery and offerings in early academic art programs at UCI.

Biographical / historical:

The Department of Studio Art at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) is one of the four departments in the Claire Trevor School of the Arts. It became a department in the School of Fine Arts in 1988. Prior to that, studio art was an area of concentration within the School of Fine Arts. The School of Fine Arts has been renamed twice and is currently called the Claire Trevor School of the Arts.

The Department of Studio Art takes a wide-ranging view of contemporary art practices. Its graduate program offers a rigorous, interdisciplinary environment for professional training in the visual arts with emphases available in Feminist Studies and in Asian American Studies. The facilities of Department of Studio Art include the Beall Center for Art and Technology and the University Art Gallery (formerly known as the Fine Arts Gallery and the UCI Art Gallery, respectively).

Fine Arts Gallery is renamed the UCI Art Gallery.
School of Fine Arts becomes School of the Arts.

The UCI Art Gallery is renamed the University Art Gallery.

The School of the Arts is renamed Claire Trevor School of the Arts.
