Background

Scope and content:

Archival copies of technical reports resulting from sponsored research at Stanford.

Biographical / historical:

The Department of Theater and Performance Arts (TAPS) intertwines theory and practice, forging a bond that strengthens both aspects. The department's vision centers on seamlessly integrating the practical craft of theater creation with the humanistic understanding of performance history and theory. This fusion is at the heart of TAPS, where theory and practice harmonize to equip students with the skills of scholar-artists fluent in both languages.

Central to the department's vision is the concept of the scholar-artist, and teaching takes a pivotal role in fulfilling this mission. Both graduate and undergraduate students are nurtured through academic classes, seminars, acting and dance studios, as well as mentoring that guides them in their creative endeavors and scholarly investigations.
