Abstract:
The Taiwanese subject collection (1931-2018 includes published materials, memorabilia, and audiovisual materials relating to political, social, and economic conditions in Taiwan, with a specific focus on Taiwan elections. Also includes microfilmed copies of both personal correspondence and government documents pertaining to the Chiang family, including Chiang Kai-shek 蔣介石 (Jiang Jieshi), Chiang Ching-kuo 蔣經國 (Jiang Jingguo), and Soong Mei-ling 宋美齡 (Madame Chiang Kai-shek).

Background

Scope and content:

The Political parties and movements series (1950s-2018) contains pamphlets, leaflets, flyers, election campaign literature, campaign songs and interviews, and memorabilia relating to political, social and economic conditions in Taiwan. Contains Taiwan presidential election materials for the Kuomintang (KMT) 國民黨, Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) 民進黨, and independent parties. Also contains materials related to the 228 Incident and cross-strait relations.

The Chiang papers series (1931-1988) comprises 69 microfilm reels containing images of letters, telegrams, diaries, manuscripts, and political and military files pertaining to the Chiang family, including Chiang Kai-shek 蔣介石 (Jiang Jieshi), Chiang Ching-kuo 蔣經國 (Jiang Jingguo), and Soong Mei-ling 宋美齡 (Madame Chiang Kai-shek). The Personal file contains family papers such as autobiographical materials and personal correspondence. The bulk of the materials are represented in the Government file, which includes documents from the 1940s-1970s relating to foreign affairs, military affairs, intelligence files, political cases, telegrams, and correspondence between the Chiangs and United States presidents.
