-
The collection contains documents and correspondence concerning , for the most part, Henry Erastus Noyes (b.1839), and George W. Wallace, (b.1872), soldiers in the U.S. Army. Henry E. Noyes was the father-in-law of George W. Wallace. It includes Noyes' 1861 photo album and other material relating to West Point, and his role in the Civil War and various campaigns in the west, much of this detailed in his 107 page typescript "The Story of My Life." There are a number of photographs relating to his military career (including two of George A. Custer).
The Wallace material includes documents related to his and other family members' military service and appointments as well as two holographic maps. Documents concern the Boxer Rebellion, and the Philippine Insurrection. George W. Wallace was a Congressional Medal of Honor winner, for actions related to his service in the Philippines in 1900. The documents in the oversize material include commissions signed by Presidents Tyler, Fillmore, Lincoln, Grant, Hayes, McKinley, Roosevelt, and Taft.
