Record Series 300 contains the administrative files of Stafford L. Warren, Dean of the School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles. Files regard the founding and development of the School of Medicine, as well as atomic bomb and atomic energy; Atomic Energy Commission; budgets; civil defense and UCLA disaster preparedness; foundations; hospitals; Health Research Facilities Grant; Public Health; Veteran's Administration; Planning Committee; Faculty Practice Plan; and construction and location plans. Materials include correspondence, reports, proposals, employment applications, research materials, and architectural drawings. Architectural drawings include diazotypes, blue prints, and original drawings of the Medical Center and its environs dating between 1948-1968. Drawings originated in the Office of Architects and Engineers (and its predecessors); Welton Becket and Associates; Murray, Erick, and Associates; Stacy and Skinner Structural Engineers; Wurdman and Becket; and Neptune, Thomas, and Associates. Some drawings are notated.
There is a gap in the box numbering sequence of this record series. Due to reprocessing, box numbers jump from box 13 to box 19.

- Biographical / historical:

Stafford Leak Warren (1896-1981) earned his B.A. at University of California at Berkeley in 1918; M.A. and M.D. at University of California San Francisco Medical School, 1922; and accomplished his postgraduate studies at Johns Hopkins University and Harvard, 1922-1925. Warren went on to direct the Atomic Energy Project at the University of Rochester (1943) and worked on the Manhattan Project. After the war, Warren came to UCLA to serve as dean of the School of Medicine (1947-1962), vice-chancellor of the Health Sciences (1962-1963) and professor emeritus at UCLA (1965-1981).

Original processing of boxes 1-13 has been revised and updated (2005 Summer): contents of file folders have been reviewed; folder titles revised as needed; and some folders assigned new box numbers. Record Series 300 now consists of Boxes 1-13; 19-242 [NOTE: boxes 14-18 empty].
