Background

Scope and content:

The personal papers of a newspaper owner and editor (Grandview, Indiana Monitor), and a Lincoln enthusiast. The collection includes correspondence, photographs, daybook, postcards, and other ephemera regarding Lincoln and Indiana, ca. 1920s-1940s. The focus of Baker's research was in establishing Lincoln's connection to Indiana and his residency there. Other scholars have maintained that Lincoln left Kentucky directly for Illinois. This collection was donated by Anne Baker Kridler, the daughter of Charles T. Baker. Anne Baker Kridler was distantly related to Abraham Lincoln via her mother's family whose surname was Grigsby.
