- Biographical / historical:

Pauline Lane (d. 1902) was the wife of Levi Cooper Lane, president of Cooper Medical College in San Francisco. After her death, she bequeathed a third of her estate to college. It was the largest gift allowed at that time under California law. With that gift, the Lane Medical Library was established in 1906.
