This collection comprises the personal and professional papers of entomologist and academic Howard A. Schneiderman. Materials
detail Schneiderman's career at the University of California, Irvine (UCI), and his work at Cornell and Case Western University.

Background
Howard A. Schneiderman Dean of the School of Biological Sciences at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) had a distinguished
career as an entomologist and academic in the field of insect pathology. He was born on February 9, 1927, in New York City.
Schneiderman entered Swarthmore College in 1944, graduating with a B.A. in Mathematics in 1948. In 1952, he received his
Ph.D. in Physiology from Harvard University where he was also a Teaching Fellow. He received his first professional appointment
at Cornell University where he taught from 1953 until 1961. At Cornell, he taught zoology and continued his research on discontinuous
respiration, which he discovered while at Harvard.
