Record Series 377 contains the administrative files of the UCLA University Librarian, generated between 1919 and 1998, including those of John E. Goodwin, Lawrence Clark Powell, and Robert Vosper. Files regard such topics as library departments; branch libraries; interaction and cooperation with UCLA academic departments, other University of California campuses, libraries, universities, and institutions; acquisitions; budgets; committees; associations and societies; Library Council; Northern and Southern Regional Library Boards; Special Collections; programs and conferences; contracts; grants; the use and need of space; library visitors; bibliographers; OCLC (Online Computer Library Center, Inc., formerly the Ohio College Library Center); lending privileges; public library catalogs; and blanket purchase orders. Also included are the chronological files of James R. Cox (Acting Associate University Librarian for Public Services, 1977-1979; Assistant to the University Librarian, 1979-1983). Materials include correspondence, statistics, reports (annual, semiannual, quarterly, and monthly from library departments and branch libraries), meeting agendas and minutes, forms, manuals, and other operational materials.
