The Nursery and Seed Ephemera Collection began when the Department of Special Collections conducted a thorough review of the Nursery and Seed Catalog Collection. For the purposes of this collection, nursery and/or seed ephemera is promotional literature, plant or seed listings without ordering information, or catalogs for garden supplies other than plants or seeds.

Scope and content:

For the purposes of this collection, nursery and/or seed ephemera is promotional literature, plant or seed listings without ordering information, or catalogs for garden supplies other than plants or seeds. These items can be a single sheet, a pamphlet or a bound volume. The collection covers companies located world-wide, though the bulk of the material is from the United States. The dates range from approximately 1910 to 2000.

Biographical / historical:

The Nursery and Seed Ephemera Collection began when the Department of Special Collections conducted a thorough review of the Nursery and Seed Catalog Collection. Many of the items in that collection did not seem to fall within the scope of that collection: items with no ordering information were better classified as promotional or trade literature; and some of the catalogs were for garden supplies, not seeds.

Processing information:

Liz Phillips, Manuscript Archivist, processed the collection and created the finding aid with the help of student assistants Kelley Liang and Ana Rodriguez.

It is not intended to include or imply permission of the copyright holder, which must also be obtained by the researcher.
