Bulk of collection is records of the Northern California Section of the Society of American Foresters. There is a small amount
of material from the Bay Area Chapter of the Society. There is a wide range of materials, including Metcalf's notes on the
history of the Northern California Section; administrative records; correspondence; committee records; meeting minutes; papers
on accreditation and education. The materials are arranged loosely chronologically.

Woodbridge Metcalf was the first extension forester for the State of California and active in many forestry organizations,
including the Society of American Foresters. The Northern California Section of the Society of American Foresters was formed
in 1916 and Metcalf joined and became an officer in this division in 1927. He later served as historian for the Northern California
Section, writing a booklet detailing the group's history from 1916 to 1966.
