Abstract:
Concern the efforts of General González Ortega to recruit men and obtain munitions in the United States to oppose Emperor
Maximilian in Mexico.
There is correspondence with Colonel William H. Allen, General James Henry Carleton, and Duff Green; agreements between General
Gaspar Sánchez Ochoa and John C. Frémont for the construction and operation of a railroad between Guaymas and the United States,
for transit across the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, and for establishing mints in Matamoros and Mazatlán. There are also letters
from volunteers, mainly addressed to Colonel Allen, seeking information on immigration to Mexico; and offers from various
firms to supply the volunteers with equipment and weapons.
