The Collection consists of a single manuscript of sermons by Japanese and Japanese American ministers prior to the evacuation into relocation camps.

Scope and Content of Collection

The Sunday Before: Sermons by Pacific Coast Pastors of the Japanese Race on the Sunday before Evacuation to Assembly Centers in the Late Spring of 1942 was not published until 1945.Edited by Allan A. Hunter and Gurney Binford, with a Preface by E. Stanley Jones and an Introduction by Allan A. Hunter, Binford states that the sermons had been "prepared for presentation in the summer of 1942, but conditions prevented their publication." The booklet contains biographical information of each of the pastors along with their sermons. There is an extended biography for Lester Suzuki, the others are short.
