The Edgar Wayburn Papers (1923-2010, bulk 1951-2007) focus on Wayburn's conservation work both in the United States and internationally.

Edgar Wayburn was born on September 17, 1906 in Macon, Georgia. A medical doctor, he is best known as a national leader in the Sierra Club, beginning in the 1940s. With his wife, Peggy, he was a key player in the creation of Redwood National Park, Point Reyes National Seashore, and the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, all in Northern California.The Wayburns also worked tirelessly for the preservation of over 100 million acres of public lands in Alaska. Wayburn received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1999.
