Historical or Biographical Note
State of California (built 1879; passenger vessel) was built by William Cramp & Sons Shipbuilding Company for the Pacific
Coast Steamship Company. The vessel wrecked in 1913 off Alaska.

Contains one black-and-white photographic postcard, 3.5 x 5.5 in., of State of California (built 1879; passenger vessel) underway,
nearly starboard broadside view, at Astoria, Oregon, 1879-1908. Passengers are visible on the deck. Captioned "S.S. State
of California, - Astoria, Oreg." Correspondence on the verso is dated July 25, 1908.
