Scope and Content Note

The bulk of Dan Curtis Production's (DCP) work was in television projects. DCP produced installments for ABC's Wide World of Entertainment, the massive television miniseries "Winds of War" and "War and Remembrance", made for television movies like "Trilogy of Terror", "When Every Day Was the Fourth of July" and "The Long Days of Summer." DCP is most known for the Gothic daytime soap opera "Dark Shadows," as well as the primetime soap revival of "Dark Shadows." Television Projects includes television series, television episodes, television pilots, made for television movies, and mini-series.The subseries contain production materials like scripts, budgets, casting, schedules, audio reels, and reviews and promotional advertisements.

Scope and Content Note

Come Die With Me (television episode) originally aired on ABC-TV May 14, 1974, with a running time of 67 minutes. This project was part of ABC Wide World of Mystery series, which was a presentation of ABC Wide World of Entertainment. Come Die With Me was produced by Dan Curtis and Bob Singer, directed by Burt Brinkerhoff and written by James Baumgarten. Come Die With Me starred George Maharis, Eileen Brennan, Charles Macaulay, Kathryn Leigh Scott, John A. Zee, Alan Napier, Philip Sterling, William Lanteau, Nick Ferrari, and Jack Griffin. This subseries contains production invoices, correspondences with ABC, talent information, script and production notebook.

Physical Description: 1 script and 4 audio reels

Scope and Content Note

Curse of the Black Widow (made for television movie) originally aired on ABC-TV September 16, 1977, with a running time of 97 minutes. This project was both produced and directed by Dan Curtis and was a Dan Curtis Production in association with ABC Circle Films. Curse of the Black Widow was also produced by Steven North and written by Robert Blees and Earl Wallace and starred Anthony Fanciosa, Donna Mills, Patty Duke Astin, June Lockhart, June Allyson, Max Gail, Jeff Corey, Roz Kelly, and Sid Caesar. Spider Lady and Black Widow were working titles for this project, it was released on video with the title Love Trap. This subseries contains one script and four audio reels.

Scope and Content Note

The Gothic soap opera Dark Shadows originally aired on ABC-TV June 27, 1966 - April 2, 1971 with a total of 1,225 episodes. The series was created and produced by Dan Curtis. The story was developed by Art Wallace and writers included Joe Caldwell, Ralph Ellis, Sam Hall, Gordon Russell, Ron Sproat, Francis Swan, Art Wallace, and Violet Wells. Directors for the series included Dan Curtis, Penberry Jones, Dennis Kane, Henry Kaplan, John Sedwick, Jack Sullivan, Lela Swift, and John Weaver. The original story of Dark Shadows followed a young girl Victoria Winters who moved to Collinsport Maine, to be a governess for the Collins family at their home, Collinwood. In 1968 the vampire Barnabus Collins was introduced and the show gained massive popularity. The key characters on the show were acted by Jonathan Frid, Joan Bennett, Alexandra Moltke, John Karlen, Grayson Hall, Lara Parker, David Selby, Louis Edmonds, Nancy Barrett, David Henesy, Kathryn Leigh Scott, and Joel Crothers. Scope and Content Note

The 1991 revival of Dark Shadows (television series) originally aired on NBC-TV primetime from January 13 - March 22 1991, with a total of 12 episodes. The story was based on the 1966 daytime soap opera Dark Shadows and was also created, produced, and 4 episodes were directed by Dan Curtis. Dark Shadows was a production of Dan Curtis Television Productions, Inc. in association with MGM/UA Television. The show starred Ben Cross, Joanna Going, Jean Simmons, Roy Thinnes, Barbara Steele, Jim Fyfe, Barbara Blackburn, Michael T. Weiss, Ely Pouget, Lysette Anthony, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Scope and Content Note

Dead of Night (television pilot) originally aired on ABC-TV August 26, 1969 with a running time of 52 minutes. This project was produced by Dan Curtis, directed by Lela Swift, written by Sam Hall, and was a Dan Curtis Production/Donnybrook Production. Dead of Night starred Kerwin Mathews, Marj Dusay, Cal Bellini, Thayer David, Louis Edmonds, and Ingrid Helmke. There is another pilot from 1977 by the same name, so this pilot is often referred to as A Darkness at Blaisedon. This title is both the episode title as well as the title given to the video release.

Dead of Night (television pilot) originally aired on NBC-TV March 29, 1977, with a running time of 75 minutes. Dead of Night was a pilot for a proposed anthology series, it contained three stories: Second Chance, No Such Thing As A Vampire, and Bobby. There is another Dan Curtis pilot by the same name from 1969, but these two projects are not related. This project was produced by Dan Curtis and Bob Singer, directed by Dan Curtis, written by Richard Matheson, and was a Dan Curtis Production. Dead of Night starred Ed Begley Jr., Jean Le Bouvier, Ann Doran, E.J. The story is based on Bud Hopkins' book of the same name which documents 600 case studies of alien abduction. They Are Among Us was the working title. Arrangement

This subseries is arranged beginning with scripts, followed by clippings, production files, music, and audio reels.

Scope and Content Note

The Long Days of Summer (television pilot), originally aired on ABC-TV May 23, 1980, with a running time of 81 minutes. This was a sequel to the pilot When Every Day Was the Fourth of July, both based on Dan Curtis' childhood. This project was both produced and directed by Dan Curtis, co-produced with Joseph Stern and Lee Hutson, story by Hindi Brooks and Lee Hutson, and teleplay by Lee Hutson. This project was a Presentation by Dan Curtis Associates and starred Dean Jones, Joan Hackett, Ronnie Scribner, Louanne, Donald Moffat, Andrew Duggan, David Baron, Michael McGuire, and Lee de Broux. The Long Days of Summer won the 1980 Golden Halo Award for Family Film Entertainment from the Southern California Motion Picture Council. Scope and Content Note

The Turn of the Screw (television special) originally aired in two parts on ABC-TV April 15 and 16, 1974, with a total running time of 118 minutes. It aired as an ABC Wide World Special and produced and directed by Dan Curtis, written for the screen by William F. Nolan based on the novel by Henry James, and was a Dan Curtis Production. The Turn of the Screw was shot in England and starred Lynn Redgrave, Jasper Jacob, Eva Griffith, Megs Jenkins, John Baron, James Laurenson, and Kathryn Leigh Scott. Subseries contains receipts, associate producer Tim Steele's file, correspondences, casting, executive in charge of production Bob Singer's file, talent information, and reviews.
