VICTORIA EN EL CASO LAGUNA DORMIDA

HIGH COURT SAYS: NOT GUILTY! !

The Mexican-American boys unjustly convicted in the Sleepy Lagoon case completely won their case this month when the Second District Court of Appeal of the State of California ordered their conviction reversed.

In a unanimous decision, the high court judges found that:

1. There was no evidence to connect any of the convicted boys with the death of Jose Diaz.
2. That there was no evidence to indicate that there had been a conspiracy among the boys.
3. The trial judge, Charles W. Fricke, had injured the case of the boys by his biased conduct of the trial.
4. The constitutional rights of the boys had been violated.

A VICTORY FOR ALL SPANISH-SPEAKING PEOPLE

These boys were arrested and convicted during a wave of attacks upon Mexican and Mexican-American people here, led by the Hearst press.

The court reversal has been called by Carey McWilliams, National Chairman of the Sleepy Lagoon Defense Committee, "The most significant victory ever won for the rights of minority peoples in California."

VICTORY FOR GOOD NEIGHBOR POLICY

To Mexico and the rest of Latin-America the victory in the Sleepy Lagoon case represents an important contribution to our Good Neighbor policy. It shows we can be fair to all! !

SE REVOCA EL VEREDICTO DEL JURADO

La decision unanime de la corte de Apelaciones del Segundo Distrito de California declara que:

1. No habia suficiente evidencia para relacionar a ninguno de los jovenes acusados con los cargos proferidos.
2. El Juez Charles W. Fricke se mostro parcial durante el jurado, perjudicando el caso de los defensos.
3. Los derechos constitucionales de los jovenes fueron violados.

Dice el Presidente del Comite de Defensa, el Sr. Carey McWilliams:

"La decision de la corte de Apelaciones es la victoria mas significativa que se ha logrado en la lucha por los derechos de las minorias en California.

"La decision tambien representa una gran contribucion al program del Buen Vecino."

"Se espera que la decision traera una una nueva era de mejores relaciones entre las mayorias y las minorias raciales en esta ciudad.

El trabajo del Comite de Defensa ha sido reconocido de gran importancia por el Consul General de Mexico, Ex Presidente Lazaro Cardenas, y el Comite Mexicano Contra Racismo y muchos individuos y grupos on Mexico y Estados Unidos.
