Dear Sylvia:

This will acknowledge your letter written to Congressman Don Edwards which was referred to me because you live in my district. I am very pleased to know of your interest in the civil rights bill especially Title III of the bill. I agree with you that everyone should have a right to an education without being segregated. I also enjoyed your reference to the motto, "Sweet Land of Liberty."

I am very proud of you and hope that you will not only complete your studies at Markham Junior High School but will take full advantage of our very fine educational system in California. If at any time I can be of assistance as your Congressman, do not hesitate to write me.

Sincerely yours,
AUGUSTUS F. HAWKINS, M.C.
