Dear Sir,

As a member of your congressional district and an American Negro I would like to urge that you endeavor to do all within your power to pass meaningful civil rights legislation. Discrimination is just as prevalent in California as it is in Alabama. In 1942 I was denied the privilege of attending the Muscatel Grammar School in Rosemead, California. I know what this has done to my life and will do anything within my power to see that it does not happen to my child.

From within the "getto" of the 21 Congressional District.

Mrs. Mary L. Mitchell
