Dear Mr. Hawkins,

I would like to congratulate you on all you have done with your work in Congress to keep our government afloat and free of subversive minds that would try to destroy freedom as we now no it.

I am 29 years old and I have lived in Los Angeles all of my life. I have a keen sense of loyalty to my people being black and from Los Angeles I love both. This is not a racial issue I am bringing before you, but out of a love for Los Angeles.

I have read in the paper that the former Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. site with not be used for the housing project, and I think that is good.

But I think it would be a good idea to get the U.S. Postal Service to build a new plant on that site—which they have already considered. The section of Los Angeles where the site exists is old and barren but with a new Post Office there it would bring new life into the city and it would be a benefit to many people.

I have not seen a lot of the world but Los Angeles being one of the biggest cities in the country I would like to see it remain one of the best.

Sincerely,
Michael E. Shannon
