Abstract:

Contains materials related to a program of French cuisine cooking classes and dinners by renowned chefs hosted at the Robert Mondavi Winery in Napa, California, collected by a person who worked as part of the kitchen staff for many of the events. Materials include printed promotional registration materials (1979, 1981-1985, 1988, 1990-1995), associated recipes for each event (1979-1992), menus, kitchen staff notes, two kitchen staff French recipe books, one 8x10 black and white photograph portrait of an unidentified chef and the kitchen staff, posters, and miscellany. Some of the posters, menus, and other materials have been autographed by the chefs and other staff persons. Notable chefs featured include Paul Bocuse, Pierre Troisgros, Jean Troisgros, and Julia Child, among numerous others. Also contains a small amount of promotional material for a related series called The Great Chefs of America.

The Great Chefs at the Robert Mondavi Winery event began in 1976 as The Great Chefs of France Cooking Course. In 1981, it was renamed The Great Chefs of France at the Robert Mondavi Winerey and featured renowned chefs teaching classes on preparing classic French cuisine followed by meals for the participants. In 1983, Mondavi expanded the program to include the Great Chefs of America as a separate series. It continues now as The Great Chefs series at the Robert Mondavi Institute for Wine and Food Science at the University of California, Davis.
