Biography
The Conference of California Historical Societies is a consortium of the local historical
societies of California. The Conference was founded under the leadership of California
History Professor R. Coke Wood of the College of the Pacific (1954). The Conference
supports the activities of its members with educational programs and information on
historic restoration, fund raising, grant writing, lobbying, collection maintenance,
volunteer activities and other subjects of interest to membership. The Conference, which
publishes the California Historian, maintains a central office at the University of the
Pacific, Stockton (Calif.).
Scope and Content
Series 1 of the CCHS Archives includes: officers' records; minutes; programs; committee
reports; financial reports; and, awards information (1954-). Series 2 of the Archives
contains serial publications and announcements of individual member societies. Regular
additions to the Archives are anticipated.
