The first record of the Millerd Family of Warwick, Kent County, Rhode Island appears in 1740 when Nathaniel Millerd signed a promissory bond to Edward Thurber. The couple had five children between 1794 and 1806: Augustus, Welcome, Julia, George, and Eliza. In 1800 Nathaniel Millerd was elected to a captaincy in the Rhode Island infantry.
