Scope and Content of Collection
The original records of the German Foreign Ministry are located in Berlin in the Political Archive of the Foreign Ministry
(Link). A microfilm copy of a nearly complete set of these records was made in England at Whaddon Hall. The serial numbers
from this microfilming project are still used to identify the material. Users of this collection should first consult the
published guide compiled and edited by George O. Kent,
A Catalog of Files and Microfilms of the German Foreign Ministry Archives, 1920-1945 (Stanford: Hoover Institution Press, 1969-1972), 4 vols. Available in the Hoover Archives reading room, this work identifies
the serial numbers and also provides the microfilm roll numbers for the files. A complete set of the microfilm is available
at the U.S. National Archives.
The Hoover Institution Library has selected reels of the microfilm in the T120 series which were acquired from the set at
the National Archives.
This collection in the Hoover Institution Archives consists of selected photographic enlargements from the microfilm. These
photo blow-ups were used by the American editors of the series
Documents on German Foreign Policy, published by the U.S. Government Printing Office. The photo blow-ups relate to the published documents in the series and
amplify them but are not identical with them.
The following container list provides the box numbers within the collection for the copies from microfilm. The documents are
identified by serial number. The Kent guide explains the content for each serial number.
