Abstract: Photocopies of legal documents pertaining to litigation initiated Arthur B. Robinson, an employee and co-founder of the Linus
Pauling Institute of Science and Medicine, against Linus Pauling, the Institute, and several members of the Board of Trustees
for, among other charges, wrongful firing, slander, and seizure of Robinson's research and equipment. The case was settled
before it was to have been heard in the Superior Court of the State of California, County of San Mateo.

Arthur Robinson (1942- ) was an undergraduate at Cal Tech in the early 1960s while Linus Pauling was a faculty member there.
Robinson subsequently earned a Ph.D. in biochemistry at UCSD in 1968 and eventually took a position in the university's chemistry
department. Robinson resigned his UCSD faculty post in 1972, and Pauling resigned his faculty position at Stanford University,
as they formed a partnership to found the Linus Pauling Institute of Science and Medicine.
Scope and Content of Collection
The papers are arranged according to the law office's numbering system. Each sheet of paper is stamped with its own number
beginning with the number 2 and concluding with 53701. Many documents are duplicated numerous times throughout the collection
and are used to document many different events and situations. Gaps occur in the numbering where blank pages or consecutive
duplicates were weeded. Also, numbers 30730 through 33709 are missing. Dates throughout the collection document events between
1973 when Robinson and Pauling founded the Linus Pauling Institute and 1981 when settlement was reached out of court. The
bulk of documents occur however between the summer of 1978, when Robinson brought charges against the Institute and Linus
Pauling, and 1981.
