"On April 1, 1946, the Hawaiian Islands were subjected to a series of high waves of extremely long period, apparently originating in the Aleutian trough. Investigation of the tsunami in the Hawaiian Islands was undertaken by two groups of interested engineers and scientists who were in the Islands at the time. The first group was from the University of California at Berkeley, and was in the charge of Prof. H. W. Iversen of the Department of Mechanical Engineering ... The second group was from the United States Geological Survey at Honolulu and was headed by Dr. F. P. Shepard of the Scripps Institute of Oceanography, La Jolla, California ... The following report is based primarily on the data of the Berkeley party. However, most of the information on the islands other than Oahu was obtained from the data by Dr. Shepard.
