Description
Identified in gold letters as "Crane Company. Plumbing, Gas, Steam, and Water Supplies,
1893" at 23 & 25 First Street, San Francisco, California, this 275 pp. illustrated
catalog of plumbing supplies describes, lists and provides sizes and prices of fittings
and equipment. The newspapers clippings pasted over the Crane Catalogue pages are mostly
unidentified and undated. There are over 96 pages on the San Francisco Earthquake of
1906. Other topics include articles on Presidents' wives, President and Mrs. Mckinley,
Queen Victoria, lectures, woman suffrage, society news, religion and the afterlife, food
and beauty aids.
Background
This scrapbook of newspaper clippings from San Francisco and Stockton papers offers few
clues as to who created it, other than that it was pasted in a Crane Plumbing Company
catalog and that the articles chosen reflect a Stockton woman's interests. The scrapbook
has been styled "San Francisco Earthquake Scrapbook" because approximately one-third of
all pages in the book are devoted to this topic.
